Apple introduced MacBook Air with new design and M2 chip

The new Apple MacBook Air is getting a completely new slim design. Instead of the previous wedge-shaped body, there is now a look reminiscent of the MacBook Pro. The Macbook Air is still super slim and very light. The newly designed MacBook Air is only 11.3 mm thick and weighs only 1.23 kg. The new model has a larger, 13.6" Liquid Retina screen. However, the narrower bezel means that the larger screen does not make the computer physically bigger. The top edge of the screen now has a new FaceTime HD camera with 1080p video support. The 500-nit screen is 25% brighter than before. Even though the new MacBook Air has a bigger screen and more powerful content than before, the battery still lasts all day with up to 18 hours of video playback.

MacBook Air is the first MacBook with the new and particularly powerful yet energy-efficient Apple M2 chip at its heart. The Apple M2 contains an 8-core main processor and a 10-core graphics processor. The memory bus with a speed of 100 GB/s is one and a half times faster than the M1 chip and supports up to 24 GB of fast unified memory. To the delight of content creators, the M2 chip also has a new generation media accelerator, which ensures even better hardware video processing in ProRes format and allows working with a larger number of 4k and 8K video files at the same time.

The new chip brings with it a decent jump in actual performance. So, for example, the speed of complex operations in Final Cut pro video processing is up to 40% faster compared to the previous generation MacBook Air and even up to 15 times faster compared to computers with competing chips. In Adobe Photoshop, adding filters is up to 20% or up to 5 times faster, respectively. Thanks to the energy efficiency of the M2 chip, MacBook Air delivers this power in a perfectly quiet, fanless design.

The beloved and secure MagSafe charging slot is also back. The computer also has 2 USB-C slots with ThunderBolt support, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack that also supports professional headphones with high impedance. Of course, Apple's legendary high-quality Magic Keyboard with the Touch ID fingerprint reader and Force Touch touchpad are still there. The new MacBook Air also offers a new level of audio experience. The four-speaker sound system is Dolby Atmos-supported, and 3 microphones capture sound directionally so that speech is as clear as possible.
